Default Cup holder removal....

Anyone know of any DIYs or anything of the like on taking apart the center console in order to replace the cup holder? I'm kinda stumped and I don't want to crack/chip/break the plastice pieces on the console. TIA.

to get to it it's the same steps as replacing your headunit, easier, in fact.

this is from memory, but i think it covers it all:

- first you remove the center armrest (two screws in the back, two screws under that small rectangular plastic cover under the e-brake.
- then, unscrew the shift knob, unscrew the two screws on either side of the of the shifter console (at the footwells).
- remove the ashtray, unscrew the screws behind that, pull out the lighter panel (there are also two clips holding the lighter panel in).
- once the lighter panel is removed, you should see two more screws holding the shifter console. unscrew those and it should then pull out.

i believe the cup holder will come as part of the shifter console, and it's only two screws holding that in.

hope this helps.

It is. It's a big piece to remove, but it's not very difficult if you follow the instructions above.

If you remove the HVAC controls be careful not to yank on it - the cable connecting the controls to the fan will snap the bracket and you wont be able to adjust the temperature in your car. Not sure that you'll need to remove that assembly, but just a word of caution if you do.
