Default 91 ls ?

i understand that the 91 LS is a obd0....this effects the ECU....if i wanted to swap in a newer engine i would have to do a ecu harness conversion...also could i do a conversion so i can swap an newer ECU from like a 1994 or 95 ls ecu to gain that 12 HP back....??

IMO, Yes, if you swap the engine, you will need the harness that goes with it and the ECU.

Ah, sorry, didn't read that as 2 separate questions. Unfortunately, I can't answer whether or not there is a simple conversion to allow you to use a different ECU & distributor, etc... to account for the difference in power.

No.
The ECU is not the sole restriction.
You will not gain power by swapping the ECU alone.. and it is not a plug-n-play solution.

The reduced horsepower rating of the 2nd Gen non-VTEC Integra is due primarily to the less agressive cams and marginally smaller valves used in the B18A1.

If you are considering a naturally-aspirated build for your Integra, save your money and do one of three things.
a) Sell your LS and buy a DC2 Integra GSR.
b) Build your B18A1 block in preparation for a VTEC head transplant
c) Swap in either a B18C1, H22A2 or if money is no object, a K20A.

So who knows what the differences between the 90-91 and the 92-93 B18a1 are? I noticed that peak torque is the same (but comes at a lower RPM), but peak HP is different - 130 vs 140?

*edit - the only info I could find indicated different cams with higher lift and longer duration on the 92-93 cams. If you were going to swap cams though, aftermarket is definitely going to give you more of everything. Other than the fact that stock cams might be cheaper, I don't see why anyone wouldn't just go aftermarket.

Any cam worth buying for the B18A1 is going to required upgraded springs and retainers.. so that's at least $800 right there. Add another $100 for cam gears and $100 for dyno time to dial them in.

By that time, you're looking at $1000 for 12-16 hp. And that figure assumes you've already ponied up the dinero for an exhaust header, intake and cat-back.

And if you're in a state that follows CA smog laws, the whole point is moot... because there are no CARB-certified cams for the B18A1.

If you found a set of 93 ls cams for free and they were in good shape, you could certainly try... but IMO, the B18A1 is not a stellar candidate for a naturally-aspirated build.

if you want to go n/a do a ls convo, still uses the b18a1 platform, w/ b16 head or gsr head if you can find it, more aggressive cams, a set of new gears and a dyno tune, you should be fine and not have to worry, seeing that money is no option of course
