Default Turbo Auto

Whats up guys... i know how much most of you dislike automatics, but I am thinking of doing the jdm auto gsr swap, mildly building it and putting a turbo on it. Outside of it being an auto, do you see any problems with doing this. Ideally, i want to run between 10-12 lbs of boost. Thanks for the help

nothing much besides the auto-manual conversion needed.. unless its only going to be mainly for show, then use up that auto tranny till it quits..

actually i kind of have the same question, only not a turbo but like a vtec head swap. I'm pretty new to doin this stuff and i was curious if i could put a vtec head on an auto. When i had the accord i heard i had to have a vtec tranmission because it had some special gear or something. Thats what the parts place said, not sure if they are full of it. But is it possible to install a vtec on an auto b18?

Didn't mean to interupt your thread 98. Just curious along the same lines.

you don't need a new tranny, just ecu for whichever and vtechead. ls/vtec isn't necessarily the best thing for reliability. I can post a link to a website that details what the ls/vtec swap is and why it isn't such a good idea once i get home. I thought about doing the ls/vtech myself, but I don't really think its a good idea unless you put a lot of money into.

yea i wouldn't mind reading that. I'd love to hear that sound rip again but if its not going to do anything but make a headache i'll just do a little work on mine. I'm just pissed off because my gf's stupid z24 cavalier has enough torque to spin the tires from a dead stop and i can't because i'm only packing 126 pound of torque. Her stupid ass bowtie has 150 i think.

you shouldnt be scared of lsvtec.. you guys probably heard bad stories of how lsvtec is unreliable and whatever, but the lsvtec has proven itself over and over again.. yes, it might not make it to 150k - 200k miles, but a regular ls or gsr motor might not either.. it all depends on the builder and the parts that are used.. just remember that the motor is only as strong as its weakest link.. LSVTEC and B20VTEC are the bomb!!

The question in this thread isn't the motor setup, it's how much power an Integra's automatic transmission can handle.

So can we please stop debating over the merits of motor building strategies and STAY ON TOPIC? :a:

To address the OP's question, there are aftermarket solutions to address the weak points within the OEM auto transmissions.

Search for "built automatic" in this forum and you'll get the names of two companies that I found that will rebuild and upgrade the transmission internals to handle the power of a turbo'd B18C1.

*** UPDATE: Here's the link. It took less than 5 seconds to find, which speaks volumes about the power of our search engine.

Personally, I wouldn't turbocharge your setup until you have the money and downtime available to upgrade the auto transmission first.

Well, I don't want to sound like I'm picking on specific people... but the problem has been getting worse lately.

I don't want to start editing posts and issuing warnings, but if the problem continues to worsen, my hand may be forced.
