I have a 96 LS and my mechanic told me my CAT is pretty much on the verge of dying..I heard that the carsound/magnaflow hi-flow cats are carb legal in CA..and it wont be illegal to put it on since my car is 10 years old and my CAT isnt full dead yet..just wanna clarify if this is all true?

Furthermore I have a Tanabe Medallion Concept G Exhaust, was wondering if I do get the direct fit magnaflow/carsound hi-flow cat will it bolt back on easily?

 

The CARB-legal cats are not high-flow per se, but they are at least as efficient as the OEM catalytic converter.

California is exceptionally anal retentive about which catalytic converters it deems legal. You'll need to go here and select the catalytic converter for your model year.

If you go with the direct-fit model, you should be able to bolt in the new cat converter with no complications. The exhaust system bolts may be a little stubborn, but everything should line up (and plug in) fine.
