Shift boot install
Pull the knob off, remove the whole console that the boot is attached to and flip it over - you will see how to replace it. There should be a small frame around it that holds it onto the console (though I don't remember how it is held on) - remove that, change boot, reinstall everything.
In order:
* Set the parking brake.
* Remove the rear-most half of the center console -- the part with the armrest and housing that surrounds the parking brake lever.
This is done by removing 4 small screws - two on either side of the console - and two 10mm machine bolts, hidden under the panel at the joint just behind the shift boot. Slide the console back and lift off over the parking brake lever.
* Remove the ashtray and cigarette lighter assembly.
Unclip the wiring harness on the right hand side.
Remove the ashtray and unscrew the single screw that hold the assmembly in place. It's held in with metal clips at the the top, so pull straight out toward the rear set.
* Remove the forward half of the center console.
This is done by removing the ashtray and then removing the 2 small screws at the front corners of the console, near the footwell.
There will also be a pair of screws on the front of the dash, where the center console attaches to the center section of the dashboard.
----
From that point on, you have to separate the leather boot from the plastic surround.. which with care will detach from the front half of the console.
Once you've replaced the boot, installation is simple. Reverse the dissassembly procedure.
