Default head gasket

thinking of doing a gasket change on my 94 gsr, how complicated is this going to be, anything that i have to look out for, never did this before so i thought i might get a few hinters before i start, any info is good info, also going to be looking it up to, thanks, also i have a good friend that is a honda tech. that can help me out if i run into any problems, but i would rather try and do it myself

Labor dude, that is all I have to say. If you the time, patience, intermediate automotive knowledge and a 12 pack of suds you can do it.

Use a Helms manual and make sure you unbolt the headstuds in the correct order. Be very careful with your torque specs. Also, make sure the timing belt is on correctly and tensioned properly.

get a helms manual, it's very detailed and well worth it for a head gasket change.

edit: damn, Das Schmoo beat me too it. haha lol

oh yeah try and get the crank bolt off first, that way if you have any problems with it, you'll still be able to drive it to a mech. and have them remove it for you. I followed the Helm's and by the time I got to the crank pulley I was half way through and couldn't get it off. That set me back a day because I couldn't drive it anywhere, so I had to search for that damn tool that honda recommends. Good Lck

The crank bolt never needs to come off when replacing the headgasket.

The helms said to remove the crank pulley when taking the timing belt off.

The timing belt doesn't need to come off either, but you are right.

When removing the head, all you need to do is loosen tension on the timing belt so you can slip it off the cam gears to remove the cams. The timing belt doesn't need to be completely removed.

oh ok I see where your coming from, I replaced the timing belt and water pump when I did my headgasket (figured I'de go ahead and do it anyways since the belt was going to be removed from the cams) but yeah I guess you don't need to completely remove the timing belt if all your doing is the head gasket. Good looking out Schmoo!!!!

ok thanks im going out to get a helms book today, is it the same as a haynes manual? or is it better
