i get the same noise.. but it is closer to the fuel injection than the tranny..
i thought it was some sort of air leaking that is making the noise..
high pitch whistle.. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee something like that..

1996 accord lx..

can it really be the alternator?? i started to hear it when i changed out the coolent temp sensor and the coolant belt the small one underneath the distributor.. before that there was no noise.. it is a feint whistle..

Yeah, I set my camera in the engine while I turned the car on so you could hear the humming. It's faint, but it's the best I can do. When I listened to it, I could hear the screech that happened first (which I'm not sure what that is) then the belt screech for a little, but if you listen beyond that there's a humming type of noise that's high pitched, really hard to hear. But it's there.

I just checked out the sound again, it seems like it may be coming from the ABS unit. What do I need to check for there?

I think you can disable the ABS by pulling a fuse, that way you can determine if the noise is still present or not. If the noise goes away when disabling the ABS then you probably have the same problem as me. But when I was inquiring about this problem no one knew what to check and I was to lazy to take it to the repair shop and have the diagnose it. The noise was present when running and wouldn't stop till about 2-3 seconds after I shut the car off. I never got any warning lights when this was happening either and then one day it stopped makingthe noise. As of today I don't really know if my ABS is functioning properly, but it's not making any noises anymore and there are no warning lights coming up. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Just so you know, I've narrowed down my options a little bit. After taking some time today to try to diagnose the problem, I ended up checking the end of my CAI to see if it was just that making the noise. I ended up taking off the filter, and it wasn't that, so i took off the entire intake, and it's coming from the TB/IM, or maybe from deeper inside the engine, I'm still not sure yet. But it seems as though the intake was just resonating the sound making it sound louder than it was.
Any other opinions so far?
