GSR Owners
I think im having an issue w/my 00' GSR during start-up but not sure. Most every honda/acura I see/hear/drive sound almost identical during start-up. Ya know, that double chirp from the starter and then it starts? anyway, my problem is sometimes my car does that (about 50% of the time) then the other half of the start-ups take more time(anywhere from 4-6 chirps). Today it started fine all day long then when i got in to go home it was like 7ish. My car is stock and well taken care of so im shocked that this is happening. any thoughts?
A few things come to mind. Some of them have been mentioned above, but I will add them in my thoughts as well.
1. Your fuel tank is low. I notice in my car that when the tank is below 1/4, it requires more starter turns for the vehicle to start. One thing that may help is to turn the key to the run position and wait for the check engine light to go off before you start it. This allows the fuel pump to build some pressure in the system.
2. Your fuel filter could be getting plugged. When is the last time it was changed?
3. Your fuel pump may be failing. Doubtfull, but if you have had a plugged fuel filter for awhile you could be putting excess wear on it. Constantly running the tank at a low level can also reduce the life of an in tank fuel pump. The pump uses fuel in the tank as a lubricant.
4. Your battery may be failing. You can take your car to any auto parts chain store (AutoZone, Advance, etc.) and they can do a load test on the battery. They should do it for free. If they don't, go somewhere else.
5. Your starter may be failing. Again, you can take your car to any auto parts chain store and they can do a starter load test to see how much current the starter is drawing. Starting current should be no more than 270 amps.

Thanks all. I was beginning to think it was motor related. Don't know why id doubt a honda motor at all but the car I switched from (78' camaro Z28) never had a issue like this one. whatever, ill just go down the list and freshen up some ish.

There should be at least 13 volts with the motor off and the leads attached.
And if it's the OEM battery, it's probably on its last legs.
I know my starter took longer to kick over near the end.
h:As a point of reference, my OEM battery lasted just about six years.

Battery checks out at 12.56 volts. Since full tank its been starting fine. Since fuel filter is only like 20 bones ill probably replace that for good measure. I heard that you have to relieve the pressure in the fuel line?
