Default When doing a compression test...

When doing a compression test you pull the fuse for the fuel injectors.

Don't you also have to disable the ignition somehow to prevent damaging the icm?

I know you have to pretty much, but whats the easiest way to do it? Is there a fuse I can pull or can I remove a wire from the coil (not the one that goes to the dizzy)?

I am not familiar with Acuras? I actually don't even have one yet but plan on doing a compression test as soon as, maybe even before I purchase it since it has 180k on it.

Just disable the fuel injection by removing the 15amp fuse in the panel by the battery. How would the ICM get damaged when you're pulling the ignition wires and spark plugs with the fuel injectors disabled?

I have heard about the ICM being damaged if you don't disable the spark while running a compression test, but I have run tons of compression tests just pulling the ECM fuse and don't have a problem with my ICM.

My teacher said the spark makes it way back from wherever disconnected (lets say top of dizzy) back through the coil and eventually to the module which fries it.

Edit: so I should pull both fuses?

Interesting, I've never had a problem with the ICM. I guess some people do and some people don't. How would a Honda tech do it I wonder? Maybe they rip out the whole distributor, lol.

You should be straight if you pull the ECM fuse, no worries.

TI has an article on this, so if anyone digs up this thread in the future, here you go.

Yeah I found that site, but they didn't mention the whole ignition system dealie.

I'd assume a honda tech would disconnect the positive lead on the coil, becuase thats what all the ASE certified books I have say.
