Default Need Help, Type-R all motor or all boost

hi my name is Alen , and i just got my first car an 1998 Type-R, i am turning 18 this july and am getting $10,000 as my graduation present from my parents, i got the car for $9,000 two weeks ago with 42K miles on it, and cant decide to either go all motor or tubo it, now my uncle who is an Honda Technician and has his own shop here in St.Louis says it's best to stick with all motor, is turbocharging a bad idea or what, i got $10,000 to spend, so please give any Info.

Ok, this is not going to sound good, but I'm trying to save you some headaches and other issues. 1) You're not even 18 yet. 2) This is your first car. 3) An ITR is a very performance oriented car.

An ITR is well above your driving abilities and it will take quite a while before you "outgrow" it and need to modify it in any way. In stock form, it's fast, fun, and handles really well. My suggestion would be to learn all aspects of the car as it is before you start doing stuff to it. If you truly want to see what the car can do, sign up to take HPDE courses or try some autox events. In the hands of a very capable driver, a stock ITR can be very fast. I've seen cars with stock suspensions and revalved shocks absolutely obliterate other cars on a race course that have $5000+ suspensions. It's a car that rewards the driver and the beter you can drive, the faster the car.

Invest the $10,000 and you'll thank me later. And keep in mind this is coming from someone who spent well over that amount on a car and still wasn't happy with the end result because I still wanted more.

i would have to strongly agree that the type r is tuned very well out of the box. personally i wouldn't turbo your ITR. ITR's and GSR's were meant to be N/A. i would do some upgrades though when you're ready!

i would bore it out a little bit, get some higher compression pistons, a bigger throttle body, bigger injectors, a high volume fuel rail and fuel pump, new cams (JUN Cams Are very good), cam gears, Valves, valve springs + retainers, port and polish the head, dc sport headers, high flow cat, catback exhaust and a VAFC II from Apexi (which you will need) have the car dyno-tuned. With the VAFC II you will also be able to ajdust the vtec engagement point so that it will quick in a lot sooner. You will get alot more power with this set up than what you have now, you'll learn more about your motor and best of all you will save around 6 or 7 thousand out of that 10 thousand!!!

Wow...just wow...

Where did you get all this info from? Just curious...

And...
Search for WestCoastStyle's GSR powered civic and tell me it was meant to be N/A.

Default All Motor

I have a ITR myself. I removed the engine and installed a B-20 bottom end from Japan, removed the stock pistons and installed the same size bore and raised the compression from 9:8 to 1 to a very streetable 12:0 to 1 with crowler stage 3 cams and spring kit all from crowler, with OBD II knockdown harness to a OBDI with a Hondata S300 fully programable on the fly when at the dyno, stage 2 clutch and flywheel from Excity clutch, also a DC sports header 4-2-1 with a 3" flange and a 3" race cat. I have 210hp to the ground with a tourqe of 145 lbs. This upgrade made this car a lot of fun and handling wow pulling out turns is very FUN!!!!!!. Off the line is fun as well, be sure to have some slicks on hand for the track. I haven't got a good time yet, still having a traction problem. 13.5 in a 1/4 not bad considering spinning in 1st and 2nd of the line with a 2.4 60 ft time. so there's my thought. Have fun in whatever u decide.

Friends who have done it. well, minus the bigger throttle body! they used the jdm ctr pistons with the .25 overbore. the bored out to .05 overbore. only reason why i know all of this stuff is because he was using my computer to order the stuff so that his girlfriend wouldn't find out. he just won't show anyone the dyno sheet. but that car run great, when it was a stock ITR i was able to beat him with my lsvtec more than once, now i have to build up my lsvtec to keep up with him!!!
