Default Best combination

I have a 2001 Gsr. I have purchased H&R sport springs for it and am now deciding on what shocks to get. I am between Koni and KYB. But am not sure if I need or will use adjustable shocks. I don't go to the track and probably never will. I am leaning toward non-adjustable shocks but am not sure of brand and model. Any suggestions. I have already searched but most posts are about adjustable shocks. Please help!

In future, please don't thread bump. Thanks.

Here's my take on the situation:
When in doubt, talk to the spring manufacturer and see what shocks they recommend for your application.

As you've already gathered from you research, you know that springs and dampers (aka shocks) are tuned as a set. You need to match the firmness and travel of the damper to the height and stiffness of the spring.

Since H&R Sport Springs don't lower things more than about 1.25", you could use the KYB GR2 damper, which is non-adjustable and pretty darn cheap. That said, if you find the GR2 shocks to be too soft, you're stuck.

Personally, I would spend the extra money on the KYB AGX adjustable
shocks, whether or not I spent any time at the track. The ability to independently adjust damping front-to-rear plays a large role in how the car behaves at the limit. And in the bigger picture, it gives you more flexibilty in tuning for a balance between handling and ride comfort.

A related concern is what bumpstop length to run. Unless things have changed from when I had my GTi, you'll need to re-use the OEM bumpstops with the new dampers. In some cases, the bumpstops may need to be trimmed slightly. That's another issue that is best adressed by the manufacturer of the aftermarket damper.

So, if you can stretch to the KYB AGX dampers, that's what I'd do.
Call H&R Customer Support and see what they have to say.
Also, with KYB ask about the bumpstops and whether they need to be trimmed when used with your specific springs.
