no, no, you need it.

the knock sensors in the c1 and c5 will bring down the engine so it wont detonate with 87 but it's not a good idea.

great so you have to but premium gas in it? that will be great when gas prices are right under $3.

o ok cuz most likely i will get a LS. i want to pay as little on gas as possible.
why do GSR and Type R's need premium?

The knock sensors....if the gas is too low in octane it starts misfiring so it lowers the timing..but it can only lower the timing so far since the GSR is "performance" car

they need premium because they're higher compression with advanced timing. if the octane is too low, the mixture could explode too early in the cycle and blow up your engine. so if the manual says premium, on any car, USE PREMIUM!!!

no the reason they need premium gas is their high compression ratios, they need the octane to prevent ignition from heat and compression.
the knock sensors are there only as precautions to prevent engine damage due to pinging, knock, detonation, whatever you want to call it it's all the same, the fuel burning at the wrong time due to any number of factors.
