How much compression can stock valves take? LS? GSR?

I wouldn't go any higher than 12:1 compression if you plan on running pump gas.

Make sure that you have enough valve to piston clearance as well since compression that high with high lift valves might cause problems.

You have to clay the motor in a completely tedious process explained here: http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/claymotor/clay.php

But I think with the cams and the compression you plan on running, claying the motor won't be necessary.

How much of a difference can just the pistons make?
