Why does the GSR sit so much lower and would the ITR manifold fit?

the GSR was the technological brainchild of honda in the 90's, it featured all the new technologies. the type-r grabbed more accliam as the best though because of it's flawless use of tried and true components and parts.

the head on the GSR is better flowing than the pr3 found on the b16, and with modification should outflow the type-r head quite easily. ontop of that it achieves a higher compression than any pr3 head.

as for the intake side of things the GSR was home to dual intake runners one short for quick response and low end power and a second, longer intake runner for high end flow and power. selection of these runners were controled by the ECU's response to trigger a butterfly valve in the intake manifold at a certain set RPM (the sound of these runners opening is often mistaken for being the sound vtec makes, which in comparison is very soft and exteremly, exteremly hard to hear (like superman-hard))

the differnt intake manifold is the reason that the inlet/TB on the GSR sits 3" lower than an LS or ITR.

the heads, as far as i know, have nearly, if not completely identical intake and exhaust ports and anything that fits the ITR will fit the GSR will fit the LS.

as for ECU's the p72 can control the most things and if you were to use a differnt manifold you could set a different device on that output (such as a shiftlight for a certain RPM)

Not just anything that fits the ITR will fit the GSR and LS. Obviously, intake manifolds aren't swappable between the motors, as the bolt patterns are different. The GSR header won't fit an ITR or LS, because the header/cat/bpipe are different lengths. And obviously, VTEC valvetrain components aren't swappable into the LS. The reason the Type R uses the PR3 casting head is because Honda had so many of the heads left over...they threw a mild P&P on it, and some upgraded valvetrain.

i thought the bolt paterns on the heads were the same... i guess not now....

The ITR, LS and GSR all have different intake manifold bolt patterns. The exhaust manifold bolt pattern is universal between the three, though.

So an ITR intake manifold would not fit an LS head?

So you are saying that the GSR head is actually far superior to the type r head?
