Death rattle idle + overheating + no heater
Ok, I am intermitttently having this problem. When starting I will occassionally get this shitty idle like a vac hose is off that will usually just go away inside a minute but at times it also will hang, inside 2 mins the car is overheated and the interior heat blows cold. When not having the idle/overheat problem, the heater works fine. If I rev the engine a few times the idle will usually normalize but hwen it doesn't it is guaranteed to overheat. I have checked when this happens and the thermostat is not opening. I replaced the thermostat 2 weeks ago, have flushed and filled the cooling system, radiator is fine, water pump is working, when this set of symptoms do not occur, I can drive however far/long I need (10 mins or hours) without it overheating.
Could this be the FITV or am I looking at another problem here?

as far as the engine overheating and no heat in the cabin, it sounds as if you still have air in the system. that said, how are you bleeding the radiator?
the rough idle + the two above.. i'm not certain. it may altogether be a different problem. but i would first ensure that the system is free of air.
also, what year integra?

It is an 87 Integra.
The thing is, I might drive it 2 weeks without this happening only to have it occur multiple times in one or two days then disappear again.
A couple weeks ago when this happened and I'd changed the thermostat and it was still overheating, I gave up and took it to my mechanic. Of course, it never overheated for him...isn't that the way? I went ahead and had him flush the radiator so they covered that end of it. I *assume* they bled the radiator correctly.
