another exhaust question thread..
I've got a greddy turbo kit on order as well as a greddy evo 2 catback. Now, I really wanted a quiet exhaust that will not be obnoxious, but the two I wanted, the exmag and apexi ws were on backorder. So, I went with the evo 2 on the account that I'm told the turbo will really quiet the exhaust down. So, is this really true? Can anyone attest to the statement that the exhaust will be noticably quieter due to the turbo? I just hope I don't end up with a loud/noisy system for my car.
even if you end up with a loud one, there are products out there that silence your tail pipe, but work on a valve system so it opens up for the exhaust flow that you need as soon as you give it a little gas and increase the amount of exhaust coming out...
Quiet when you need it, loud when it needs it.
Quiet when you need it, loud when it needs it.
Since the EVO2 has much more volume inside the muffler than an N1-style canister exhaust, the level of sound will be greatly reduced compared to most single-pass straight-pipe absorption mufflers. Also, the pitch will be much lower than an N1 muffler.
And yes, the pressure pulses will be dissipated as the exhaust gas drives the turbocharger impeller, in turn reducing the tendency for resonances at certain rpm. I recommend staying with the EVO2. It was designed to complement your turbo-kit both in terms of performance and sound dissipation.
By comparisio, the RSR ExMag and Apexi WS2 are really intended for mild N/A applications, the tubing will be undersized for a turbo B18C1.
Furthermore, the increase in exhaust gas temp generated by a turbo GSR would make mild-steel tubing (as found on the WS2) a poor choice in terms of corrosion resistance.
Stick with the EVO2.
