Default Alternator Prob with 1990

I bought a 90 Acura Gs from a friend with new alternator installed. The car would run for a couple of days and then the battery would go dead. I got a new battery and the car ran for about a week and the battery went dead again.
I tested the alternator by unconnecting the battery completely while the car was running and the car would continue to run. I hooked up the alternator to the battery again and tested the voltage. It would drop down to about 11.5v, but when I turned the headlights on the voltage would go back up to around 13v. I am wondering if there is a way to adjust the alternator or if it is just bad and I need to replace. I am pretty sure there is a problem with the alt but not sure if there is a component to switch out on it or just get new. Please advise Thanks.

Sounds wierd that when lights are on the voltage increases{Almost like a arch in the system}. As for adjusting the alternator ,that's a new for me,though changing out the eternals {rebuild}would be an option. I have an 89 acura and before i got it my friend was having trouble with keeping the battery alive,{alternator checked out o.k. so he put in another battery and yet it started dying as well{turned out the disturbuter was going out or so we thought}A new one ran a little high for his likings so we cleaned it and no probs. since{a year later}

1 thing u probally should charge that battery get knew alt found out its easer and cheaper 2 go new some times. Alt is about 70 or 80 bucks just got one. Labor is a biatch though. I suggest u get formiliar with yur car and take alt out on warm day wif about 6 hrs lol in lame dummy terms. Or u can get car knoledgeable buddy and take a lil while and on bolt alt to save a lil bit on labor if your broke i believe its a 12 n 14 socket you need but its tight lol. Good Luck
