Default How important to use OEM parts instead of aftermarket

I wanna do some maintenance, like replace O2 sensor, distributor rotor and cap, wires, PCV valve, and fuel filter! My friend told me I better use OEM parts, which are much more expensive than aftermarket ones. What you guys think?

you can get all that stuff at your local autoparts store, the only thing i would recommend to get at the dealer are the sparkplug wires and o2 sensor. Is your o2 sensor even broken?

No, it is not broken. These days I found the mpg of my car almost below 20 (city drive) and I wanna tune it up somehow. I havn't replace the O2 sensor and wires set for almost 7 years! I think it is time to do some work 'cause I wanna keep this 93 teg for a while!

You can save some money and buy a generic O2 sensor from Bosch. It think they run about 50 bucks. I myself prefer to compare the dealers price to aftermarket prices. Sometimes you only save a few dollars so it may be worth the extra money to buy dealer parts. I have found drive belts and even the pcv valve at the dealer not costing too much more.

With O2 sensors. Stick with OEM. This is one of the few parts that you should stick with OEM.

(distributor rotor and cap, wires, PCV valve, and fuel filter) ok to use aftermarket.

if your o2 sensor is fine dont change it, not worth the trouble. id stick with all OEM parts just for the fact that they're OEM and not crap.

With the mission-critical hardware, IMO, it best to go with the OEM.
That means timing belt, water and oil pump, timing belt tensioner.

I've used Autolite plug wires and Champion plugs on my cars to no ill effect over OEM. The only time I'd be concerned is if the parts are some no-name brand. Stick to the companies with credibility and you'll be fine.

there is no such thing as a true oem part, someone in the aftermarket makes it for them.... sometimes an oem part is of better design but 9 times outa 10 your going to get as good or better than oem quality from aftermarket...for tuneup the only brand i would go with is standard motor products. their o2 sensors are of top notch. and as for o2 sensor change...u dont have to change it but it is possible to see an improvment with a new one. they do get lazy ive done scope tests on them and seen the difference myself

If it's been 7 years, you're due for a new O2 sensor. They do degrade over time.
