Default CAI Guys Beware!!!!!!!!!

well check this out. Im working on the turbo project and i have a dig cam w/ me. ill be taking pics of everything 4 ya guys. ANYWAYS look at my CAI. its been on for 1.5 yrs mabye. it was installed correctly and worked great but CAN YOU SEE THE HOLE. I believe it was rubbing againsted the part where the pliers are pointing to. I THINK, it is the motor mount. there is some silver on the edge. i did lower the car about 2" mabye more but THIS SHOULDNT LOWER THE MOTOR MOUNT. check your CAI, who knows how long its been like this and who KNOWS what might be in the motor

That's where the CAI goes through the hole into the fender...it always rubs there...I folded up some vinyl and wrapped it around, then cut it into a short ram.

Short Ram is the way to go if anything.

I had a GSR CAi on my LS and i actually had 2 holes form due to it not sitting correctly. I cut it to a short ram. I bought a new CAI since then tho and i positioned it so it's not rubbing anything.

cool. i hate short ram. does nothing IMO. if anything i might just put one of the rubber couplings there and crank it down. THEN it can no longer produce holes and it will be air tight. BUT STILL its gotta be sold for the up coming turbo

i have a short ram on my gsr and it rubs constantly on my ac lines...it actually rubbed through one of the lines so now i have to replace it and recharge the system... i ended up wrapping electrical tape around the lines so it wouldn't get any worse.

well in imo, short ram is the only way to go. the ambient underhood temperture when moving is the same as the outside temperture. with a cai, your only getting true cool air when sitting still....

i agree the whole way a cai sucks air from the "bottom" of the car is kinda stupid imo. the short ram allows more air in via a cone filter, which is all you really need, not the marginal air temperature difference.

Your "opinion" is incorrect.

Why wouldnt you have wanted a short ram which produces gains in the upper powerband? The GSR is upper powerband oriented from the factory. I say hack the CAI and turn it into a SRI for the time being.

You're correct! What good is the gain of cold air at a stand still? The motor still has to work harder to receive the "cold air" because of the longer piping over the SRI. Not to knock the CAI or anything it produces nice gains in the midrange (AEM hump), but who wants midrange gains on a GSR. Midrange power is cool for daily driving; you don't want midrange if your building your car for quarter mile runs.

That happened to me! cost me $600 something! so i went and got a new CAI,

I have a cone air filter on my CAI and the car seems a little prepier then when I had the short ram. maybe it's just me...
