Default installing a vtec head on a 90 rs teg

hey,
i want to put a vtec head (either gsr, or type r) on my b18a1 block
i was told that i would have to do some drilling and get a vtec controller
is that true?
how much hp would that give me
all i have done to it is intake and exhaust.
i was also told to just buy a ls block, and make it an ls vtec, or get a crv block, and make it a cr-vtec
which would be better to do?
thanks

As I've said before, it'd be reliable to 8k with the addition of ARP rod bolts, but not with the stock ones....7300-7500 max.

heres another link for the ls/vtec conversion
http://www.g2ic.com/tegtips/engine/6.html
yea the LS pistons redline at 6500 (or ~6700 with the 92-93) so rebuild it if u want it reliable past that so u can make full use of the VTEC. and this conversion costs ~2k! so make sure it is even legal to do (smog wise) good luck. u may want to look into just buying a b18c1 or boosting ur b18a1...

The pistons redline? The conversion costs 2k? You need to do more reading.

Definitly do some more reseasrch on ls/vtec. The engine needs to be built to handle the high reving. If you can't afford to do a complete engine build atleaste have the bottom end built right. As for the horse power, this all depends on what you plan on doing are you going n/a or boosting? There's a lot of infomation out there on this build.

well because the LS pistons aren't built for that high RPMS and for the ~2K look at the site i gave. it gives the prices for wat u need, add them up
