Default does gas octane really matter?

on monday i was on E and i only had $10 so i decided to put 87 octane usually i put 91 and when i drove the car the next day it felt like shit and it used up all the gas like in 40 miles it sucked...is it true that 100 octane fuks with your motor? the 1st week that i got my 96 gsr me and all my freinds chiped in $10 and we got like $50 and we put 5 gallons on 100 octane at the 76 by my house and that gas made my car feel like it was on steroids when i hit 5500 rpm u could hella hear the vtec...and it we raced 4 times and drove like 50 miles and i still had gas, so why do ppl say 100 octane is bad?

Yes, octane matters. Running too low of an octane can cause you to detonate. Since you drive a GSR, you need to run 91 octane because of the compression ratio. 100 octane is fine to run, as long as it's not leaded gas. Leaded gas will poison your catalytic converter.

on a typical stock efi system that "requires" premium it is best to run what they manufacturar recommends but in cases like urs almost all manufacturors including acura/honda state right in the owners manual that it is ok to temporarily run a lower octane although u will notice a decrease in performance as the car "detunes" itself to compensate. and what dubcac said about the higher octanes is dead on...watch out for leaded it can hurt

Most gas, at the larger chain is unleaded so not much to worry. On the other hand if you fill up at George's Gas...

Well, I used octane boosters on my bike and they made a shitload of difference, cause highest octane around here was 100. It gets expesive though...

But, with a gsr you don't need the boosters man. 91 pump gas is great. And with the price of gas. SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT

Octane boosters are worthless.
