New to Integras, just got a 98 GSR... what next?
I came home last week to find an Integra parked in my parking spot, so I parked behind it in my driveway, never seen this car before in my life, it was not one of my friends cars or a family members car, so I went inside. I find a note on my bedroom door... "Got you a new car because of gas prices, fully insured, keys are on your desk, have fun and take care-Dad"... I thought it was a joke, but sure enough the keys where on my desk, and I went to the car.
I liked it! It looked great, smelled new, the car has only 45,XXX miles on it, 5 speed. It's a GSR. So I took it out for that day, the car is slow compared to what I drive on the weekends (was my daily driver at the time), but the car is a blast to drive reguardless! It has pretty good top end, 0-60 could use some work, but other then that it is great, and it is awesome on gas (my other car is getting 9 MPG at best). Love it!
I would love to know what are the simple / basic mods that I could do to this car to increase it's power, I am new to the 4 cylinder world and do not know where to start. I do not want to add nitrous, turbo, or a super charger, I want to stay all motor, I have a budget of $1,500. What should I get?

cat-back exhaust - $500 (Apexi Worldsport)
Short-Ram air intake - $100 (AEM Short ram intake)
header - $300 (DC Sports header)
struts and springs - $600 ( KYB AGX and any spring of your choice)
= $1,500
your car would look good and have a little extra horsepower as well. i would buy the parts that equal the same amount that i listed so you dont get crappy parts. i also gave examples of brandname parts that cost around the same price range too.

you simply wouldnt have enough money to get a good one and still get the rest of the things listed and the horsepower gains arent worth the extra 100 bucks. the cold air intake just routes closer to the ground where all the cold air is, the disadvantage to that is that it can soak up water easy and that leads to hydrolock(engine is usless after this). and again the throttle body(BBK, skunk2 etc.) and ECUs wont fall into your budget quidelines.
Hmm. Well how would that exhaust sound, Could I do a 2.5 inch exhaust into a Flowmaster? Or am I still thinking it's a V8? lol
Would that exhaust have a deep and evil sound? I do not want it to be loud and annoying, I want deep and powerful.

lol, you're still thinking V8 man. If you want deep and evil, go with the Greddy EVO II... thats just IMO but i think others will back me up on it. Congrats on the car and welcome to HAN
dont worry about cold air intake, get a SRI. the air under the hood as your moving is the same temp as the air outside. you only get cold air when your sitting still.
and dont just lego peices together. know what you want in your powerband/hp/driving habits and peice something together that fits your goals.

yes do the bolt ons that were mentioned. Also, you never mentioned what kind of gas guzzler you have. Congrats on your 98 GSR. What color is yours. Mine is the Sonic Blue Pearl( looks purple at times). Must be nice to have a parent just buy you another car because of gas prices..
Welcome to HAN. Your GSR engine is pretty finely tuned right from the factory, but you can definetely get more power out of it. It's possible that more aggressive cam set and a piggyback fuel management system could up your power considerably. Chagning the power band will probably result in a loss of power early in the powerband.
