Anyone know an easy way tell the difference between a JDM b18c (1-5)?

jdm's dont have numbers after "b18C"

your right. but so how do you know if its a 1 or 5?

well doesnt the R have the red valve cover?
if it comes with a tranny, it will have an LSD
the header is a 4-1
the intake manifolds are different (type r mani's are similar looking to ls's)

notice the intake manifolds?

98+ JDM ITR had 4-1 Exhaust Manifold. 96+ had 4-2-1 with a 2.5" collector. Minor differences in the cylinder head is another way to identify the motor quickly. (Upper radiator hose outlet. Casting stamps on the head PR3 or P72.) As mentioned before the intake manifold is another quick way.

ok so your saying a b18c, 5 not showing with red cover is type R. and a b18c, 1 not showing is gsr.

ok. well my bro has a b18c gsr and it has aem intake, fuel rail, press reg, dc 421, greedy cat back, and smokes a lot of white smoke, an oil ring scrached up the cylinder wall , so untill we bore it or something he got a b18c1, and i just wondered about the 1-5 , so if a 5 is type r than i see...thanx

we tried replacing it twice..no luck, might be warped???

did you get it milled? if its warped, get it milled to straighten it out
