Say you shift at 2k...imagine how much throttle it requires to get up to speed. Now, if you shift at 4.5k like I do at a 20% throttle position, you are using less gas and accelerating faster.
Now if you are cruising, 60mph in 3rd is wasting gas, so 5th would be a better choice.

I got what you were saying, but you forgot to factor in the acceleration and throttle position part. You were right on the money for the cruising part.

dont mess with it, it is an automatic, let it do it's own thing
my car actually started giving me better fuel economy after i installed a cold air intake and catback exhaust.
of course i was pinning the throttle every hance i got (just to hear it), but after that when i drive it better Im getting pheonominal fuel economy (32-36 mpg hiway)

Regular maintenance like oil changes, Fuel filter replacement, spark plugs, plugs etc will help. Also going easy on the gas, and keeping the RPM's Low, as mentioned earlier. Also you can make sure your tires are inflated with the correct pressure, cuz if they're too low, yea, you that can DEF affect gas mileage. you can also add a 1$ bottle of fuel injector cleaner
