the idea is to keep the RPM's of the engine as low as possible.. if you have a manual which it seems you do when you are just rolling put it in neutral.... i usually put mine in 5th even at slower speeds to save gas, if i need to speed up i downshift to 3rd and then i upshift directly to 5th again once i'm back to where i want to stay
JUST A question, someone told me that putting the car in neutral, decellerating, and then shifting into another gear was bad for their car. Also, someone else told me that it didn't matter on a manual, only automatics. (automatic-> going from d, to n, then back to d).
