Default Is it worth a B16a2

First of all I have a 97 rs not a bad car but lacks the loved VTEC. I have two options right now, first I can get a B16A2 for dirt cheap and drop that in my ride.
Second I could get a USDM B18C for a lot more but I would get more torque with the B18C.
They both have the same HP at 170.

Is it worth putting the jdm B16A2 in my car?

The jap-spec B16's do indeed make 170 hp, but at like 7800 RPM. That's not what I would call useable every-day power. For the amount of money you would spend on swapping a used motor that you don't know the history of, you could throw a bunch of money at the motor that's already in your car and get similar peak numbers but more power at lower RPM.

always a option is to find a b16 head, can be found for really cheap, and do a frankenstein ls/vtec in your car for a little cheaper then to buy another motor

I have read a lot of negative things about ls-vtec and I don't have the time to tear apart my motor and build it back up with all new internals. Is ls-vtec a good option?

LSvtec is a better option than b16, but can be costly and take some time to build it right. People have problems when they try to do it cheaply and half assed, just because they want vtec. What they don't understand is that the stock LS bottom end was not made to rev up to 8k, which is where the vtec motors make all their power. But that b16 will be slower than the b18b even. Not enough torque to get the car going. So no, the b16 is not worth putting in your car...you'll just be paying for worse performance.

IMHO, the B16 doesn't have enough to throw an Integra around. You'll spend a couple grand and end up with a car that's only a hair faster.

I don't even think a teg with a b16 would be faster than an LS. I've beaten my share of SI's and I only had an intake. Sure it may have more hp, but it has no torque.

B16 in a G3 Integra = no good
you want some vtec in your ride? first step, ditch the B16 engine swap idea, save some money (or use the same money since you said it was dirt cheap) and swap out the tranny to a B16 or GSR. that setup alone will get you running close to GSR's.
