Yes.

With the $200 you pay for an aftermarket intake, you are paying for the CARB legality. If you don't have to worry about smog, don't waste your money, just buy an ebay one, or make one like you said.

there's nothing greater in this world than knowing you can run str8 pipes on a car as long as it has a cat and not get in trouble b/c of smog laws. This is why I will never leave Alabama, b/c I doubt there will ever be smog control here! woohoo... but for everyone else I feel sorry for ya, it must sux big time!

In my opinion the AEM short ram is a good cheap alternative. Keep in mind that after market Intakes systems are also tuned using the piping length and pipe diameter. Not saying your home made one will not work but I'd pay the 80 to 90 bucks and get the AEM short ram or the RS akimoto. After 3 honda's and about 90 stereo systems, I've wasted more money in trying to save money than just doing it right the 1st time.

I paid for the AEM legality. After my header run in w/the law I'm glad it's legal otherwise it would have been another fine. Never again. If you live in Cali going legal is a good investment cause eventually the heat is going to catch up w/you.
