How old (a driver), if any age, is too old for a modified teg?

There are more things competing for your money when you are in your 30's compared to when you are in your early 20's.

Not just houses and retirement funds, but cost of living and vacations seem to get more expensive and exotic as you grow older.

I'm 51 (but hopefully don't look all of it).

My ride is a black '95 GSR. I bought it new. It has a few mods:

- Urethane bushings and motor mount inserts.

- KYB AGX struts with H&R OE Sport springs (only around 1" of drop).

- Comptech combo sway/tie bar.

- Custom "hidden" CAI intake: drop in Uni filter, custom intake tubing re-routed to a safe area behind fenderwell splashgard (like a stock Type R).

- Airmass catback (Nopi had a great deal on 'em a few years ago). Looks "OK", does the job.

- Comptech headers.

- 12.3 lb Prostreet flywheel.

- Exedy organic clutch.

- Additional ground wires (like hypeground).

- Yoko ES100 tires (205/50-15) on the *stock* rims.

- Always use Redline oil and K&N oil filters. Change 'em religiously every 3000mi.

I did most of the work myself (except for the clutch/flywheel - I don't have a real lift).

Nope, never dyno'd it. It is definately a lot faster that stock. My setup puts the biggest HP/torque gains around the upper-mid range (3500-6000 rpm). That's where I want it. I do have a Gtech Pro (older model, naturally) and have seen it show (calculated) HP at around 165hp (that's at the wheels). Pretty respectable for an all-motor '95 with 63k miles on it.

Nope, no stickers or CF splitters on the car. From the front and sides, it looks bone stock. It's a sleeper.

My CAI is "stealth" because of where I live. If a "county mounty" pulls you over, they'll make you pop the hood. If they see an exposed custom intake, they'll immediately ticket you for emissions non-compliance. Sheesh.

There is an advantage to being older. Often, when on the freeway, I'll get checked-out by a trooper. When they see I'm not some sort of teenager, they (usually) move on. ;^)

Well guys it's 7PM and I guess I should get ready for bed because you all are maiking me feel like an old fudd.
I have 1994 Integra GSR with minimum mods. but would never let my age dictate what to do to a vehicle.
I have 3 grown kids, 2 grandkids (6 & 15) and I'll be damn if I am going to slow down
Life is too short to think about age!!

[QUOTE=laguire]Just out of curiosity - at what age do you think a person is too old to drive a modded teg?

Is this question a jab at age discrimination?? Just out of curiosity - how many Hassidic Jews drive modded tegs? How many Lancaster Mennonites have black 95 GSRs hiding in the barn? How many Cherokee ring em up out in Okie?? etc...
Maybe I'm a little mad because a racoon caused me to wreck my EF hatch just a few weeks back. But if I was not in the middle of reconstructing the "BOLTADADABLUE" I would not be here posting today. I had lowered and installed Tokiko blues & Skunk2 springs and had fattened the 13" rims to 5" and applied Sumitomo 60x205x13 tires. When the frickin racoon popped my back wheels in the air and gave me a hipcheck sideways into the dew slickened median grass I slid for 60 yards instead of flippin and rollin like a NASCAR filmclip. Trouble came when my car veered into a stand of tree-bushes head-on. Engine blew and frame bent. End of story right??
NO. My big air cylinder head is coming home from the machinist any day. I'm matching it to a B18a1 block. I have the Eagle rods, ARP connect bolts, the girdle for the mains, a deep dish Type R windage tray and oil pan. I have the VTEC oil pump/ water pump ready to go. I have new B18c1 head bolts and the I+O dual valve springs etc for high rev. HAHA, I have the CV shafts rated at 250 HP with a GSR mid shaft. I have an entire interior and engine bay wire harness checked and ready. What about the Stage 11 clutch and flywheel - they must be prepped but are ready with surface attention. Oh, my my, I must re-assemble the tranny I reconditioned with new sychros, etc. etc.. etc...mumble...
Yesterday I took a metal cutter and removed the end piece from the valve cover so I can have easy access to the adjustment screws on the new adj cam gears. They will be adjusting the beautiful type R camshafts I picked up along the way.
So, I am going on with my build even though I've lost my platform to a racoon. Even if the engine sits in my garage and I have to strap a fuel tank and radiator to it I will start this machine one day before I pass on. I might even splurge on one of them HY-TECH headers before I purchase another EF platform.
Yep, I was born in Hawaii before it was a state. I owned a new 1973 CVCC civic, a 1985 CRX and the 91 EF hatch I just totalled. Did I mention the head on collision I had in the CRX?? Twice I've been totalled in Civic cars and I keep dreamin and workin on the LS/VTEC monster. YA CAN'T STOP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha.
