Default missing link/VAFC

1 question, do I need to run a missing link, if I have a VAFC installed?

I figured that. I am lost with this thing! If I plug in the map with the missing link I dont get a CE but I get a crappy running car. If I unplug the map I get a good running car in limp mode. If I take out the missing link and just leave the map I get a good running car until I boost it, then I get a CE light and a poor performing car. I am at my wits end with the car. Maybe the Missing link is bad or defective? I see its a very simple design( spring/small vacume cap), but I dont know what would be wrong with it or how it could go bad. Do I have any other options with this?
