Default Brake Heatshield

My car is making a squeeky noise on the front driverside and im pretty sure its the brake heat shield. Can i just take this off and if i do what is the pros and cons to taking it off. Thanks

are you talking about the shim that goes around the brake pads? if so then just apply some anti-squeal compund to the back of the break pad then reinstall the shim and you know the rest.

no theres this metal piece behind the rotor...i have a feeling this is the squeeking noise

I would check to see if the sheild is loose. I don't know if I would take it off, as it also protects the back side of the rotor from debris hitting it.

I would also check the wheel bearing. I have a bad wheel bearing on my drivers side and it sounds like the shield but that isn't the case.

I don't recommend removing the shield, though.

so since you know everything why don't you fix it...

its not my break pads its something that squeeks when i go over a speedbump or drive onto someones driveway, making me believe that it could be that heatshield....Shmoo how do i check the wheel bearing?

I know on mine that if the wheel is turned, it will make a metallic squeaking noise.

So, you say that it only does it when you go over bumps? Mine does it all the time; whenever the car is moving.

i have been having a similar problem, however my squeaks come only when the steering is turned @ any angle to the right while in motion. the noise stops right after I str8en the steering wheel. is this a case of the wheel bearing too?

Sounds like a CV boot or joint to me.
