Yeah, hence the :dunno: smiley.
I kinda figured the manual rack would be like 7 trillion turns lock-to-lock.. h:

If you were to remove the ac and ps belt and all the pumps then replace it with a lightweight underdrive pulley there would be a diference to make it worth the time. just removing them to increase HP, give me a break. not enough to warrant the work.

Yes

Quaife makes a quick ratio rack for it though.

Well I will add my two cents.

I pulled my power steering off and I loved it. To me it felt better and I DEFINITELY felt a difference. MY butt dyno told me that it revved slightly freer. I also remember someone saying they saw a dyno chart somewhere for a type r. One with ps and one without. The one without they gained 10hp and 7ft/lbs of torque. That was the only change.

10hp and 7ft/lbs of torque, dang that would be awesome, unfortunately I find it highly unlikely, unless they somehow had the P/S drawing a full load during the first dyno test, then stripped it and dyno'd it again. But as we discussed, that's not normal driving conditions, except when accelerating around a corner. Thanks for your 2 cents.

I can't verify that I just remember reading that somewhere. But I definitely felt a difference. Besides I liked the feel better. I think they are over boosted stock, there is a better road feel without PS.

So many complaints about parallel parking.

People who can parallel park well(quickly), you are safe to take your power steering off.

I have been running without my power steering and A/C for over a year now and from my perspective I preffer driving without them both. The only time I wish I had A/C is in the rain when the windows fog, but...ehhh.

The reasons I did it was to clear up space in the engine bay because I think it looks a lot less cluttered and cleaner, drop some weight (those components are really heavy especially the brakets), and make some cheap HP & TQ gains. I still have not gone to the dyno because I am lazy but the biggest thing I noticed was the engine reving a lot quicker. There did seem to be a bit of a boost in power but that is on the butt dyno and nothing scientific. I also added the CTR N1 crank pulley to shave a few more lbs. and also removed my cruise control. All this I sold on eBay and bought other mods with the money.

Basically it really is a prefference thing for people. I never used the A/C and preffer to drive without P/S...for me to take these systems off my car was a no brainer. For other people they may like to have them. If you do remove the P/S definately get a breather kit to keep the rack lubed and prevent dirt from getting in there.

Good stuff Tom, good points. I live in CA and use A/C year round, but I often flip it off when I need an acceleration boost, my butt dyno tells me A/C on vs. A/C off equals 5hp. Sounds like you've got a good setup and I can see where your mods together would make significant difference.

Okay.

Talk to me once you've parallel parked on Divisadero, pointed downhill at 12 degrees, with a MUNI bus bearing down on you at 35 mph...in a spot that's about 3 feet longer than your car.

You have less than 20 seconds to get the job done.
