When I tested the coil I got slightly off numbers for the resistance than spec but thought it was just my multi-meter. What would a failing coil do?

Prevent you from sparking. The coil is quite common, mine's already been changed once and I've had my car like 6 months

If they're even just a little out of spec with an ambient temperature of 70 degrees F, your coil will not allow your car to spark

Sweetness. A fairly painless job, pending your rotor cap screw isn't rusted into the spindle
