Default possible rebuild time... gsr?turbo

its very odd that i would need to rebuild my motor at such low miles on my motor... barely at 60,ooo. but i did a compression test last week and it was horrible.... b4 i assume anything i will bring it to a shop and find out whats my problems... i really want to fix the problems and sort of do other parts to since im doing stuff with the motors.. what parts are good if i wanted to rebuild my motor... i dont want to spend 4-5gs for a complete rebuild but im willing to spend some where around 2gz... im not to familiar with cams, pistons, rods etc so i will need some major help from ya!!! means alot to a kid who is going thru a horrible phase with his turbo project... ooo yahs maybe the reason why is because im boosting .. but im only at 7.5 lbs with a lil greddy turbo? so my spending price is around 2ooo bucks...

Get some wiseco pistons, crower rods, and a hondata. If you don't get something tunable and have your car tuned, you're just going to have the same problem all over again.

Yeah, I don't see the point of rebuilding with aftermarket parts when the turbo falls on it's face at 10 psi. OEM parts should be fine.

I do agree on the tuning part. I don't trust the blue box as far as I can throw it. It leans everything out way too much, so it is best to have a tunable program.

I know of another person on another board that just went greddy boosted on an LS..2 weeks later, his ringlands were cracked and it was time for a rebuild. If I was going to do a rebuild and have the motor apart, I'd throw in aftermarket stuff so I wouldn't have to do it later. That way when you want to upgrade the turbo and crank up the boost, you can...as well as go to a higher RPM with valvetrain/cams to match. I wouldn't want a weak link.

Who says the 18g falls on its face @ 10PSI? Thats a bit of an exxageration. And its not like there aren't a million other turbos to bolt up, or hell, just sell it and piece together a cheap setup that will give you a bit more room to work with.

If you crack that motor open, you'd be nuts to not at LEAST go with pistons and rods. Build for the future not for the present.

It is a bit of an exaggeration but my point is that there isn't much potential out of the small turbo. Him and I are running that turbo because of smog legality. If I didn't live in California or had hookups to pass smog, I would piece a kit with a larger turbo together in a heart beat and think about internals. At this point, the stock internals will be more than enough for the full potential the turbo has.

I'd just take it off for smog and go with something bigger, and a tubular mani. Among other things...:rick:
