I do agree on the tuning part. I don't trust the blue box as far as I can throw it. It leans everything out way too much, so it is best to have a tunable program.
I know of another person on another board that just went greddy boosted on an LS..2 weeks later, his ringlands were cracked and it was time for a rebuild. If I was going to do a rebuild and have the motor apart, I'd throw in aftermarket stuff so I wouldn't have to do it later. That way when you want to upgrade the turbo and crank up the boost, you can...as well as go to a higher RPM with valvetrain/cams to match. I wouldn't want a weak link.
