Default Jrsc Lsvtec

pros? cons? I'm debating wheather this a better idea than supercharging a b18c. I hear the ls block responds better to boost than the higher compression in the b18c. So what do u guys think? Would the lsvtec make more power than the b18c at 6 psi?
If i go with the lsvtec, what jrsc would i use? Say if i used a b16a1 head? Would it fit properly?
Thanks

It should fit, but why not just use the GSR head? you got an integra ls right? Everybody I know uses the b18c1 head. Goodluck ma

You can use either of those heads, but the b16a head has a slightly larger combustion chamber which makes detonation a little less of a problem, which would an even more serious issue when some form of FI is used. It's just easier to deal with because there is slightly less risk of detonation which means less headache and worry in the long run. I've also seen that the b16a heads are easier to get and slightly cheaper as well...but I guess that depends on how much supply is available and the demand in your area for them.

First off...I'm glad that you are open to different options...openmindedness is a good thing! :werd: I'm assuming by your screen name that you have an LS integra. Have you by any chance thought of keeping your stock motor and just turboing it? A supercharger is a little easier to deal with in daily driving and is easier to maintain in most cases. I've seen guys run 8 psi on a stock LS motor, and with proper tuning, they are tunning strong after a year or 2. You could always run at like 5-6 psi and upgrade things down the road(i.e.-rebuild with forged bottom end and ported head, or just raising the boost some if the motor is still in good shape after a while).

I've seen LS/VTEC motors put out more hp than a gs-r motor, but it takes a good big of work to do so. Please don't believe everyone when they say that LS/VTEC's are unreliable. ANY motor can be killed when you push it to 8,000-9,000+ rpms on a regular basis..that's obvious. If it's built well by someone who knows what they're doing, you will be just fine. I'm sure you're aware of all the things you'll need to do to prepare the bottom end of the motor for a conversion like this. It's true that the LS has a bit lower compression, but it will be bumped up some when a VTEC head is mated to it due to their slightly smaller combustion chambers. Either route you chose to go will net you good HP and TQ gains. There's even the route of a B20b/z block(which can be had for cheap these days) turbo'd and the possiblilty of it becoming a CR/VTEC motor. Honestly though, I've seen guys run 8-9 psi on a stock gs-r motor with good tuning and they are fine. It all depends on what you're willing to spend and the overall perfomance goals you are looking for. With a supercharger, you get good power throughout the band and don't have to worry about the spool up of a turbo, then again, you most likely won't see quite the gains that you would from a turbo. Post up here again and let us know what overall perfomance you are looking for so we can better advise you as to the routes that you could take. Hope this helps ya a little.

Well, in terms of horsepower gains, it depends on a couple of things, and correct me if i'm wrong about any of this.

1) I need it to be a daily driver, so it has to pass the emissions testing we have every 2 years here in Toronto.
2) I'm going to need to put a lot of clicks on the car on a daily basis so i still need to be fuel efficient, i guess the supercharger beats the turbo here.

So I'm thinking of running between 6-8 psi. I'm actually selling my LS, (long story), but i'm deciding on which integra to buy next. I love my car, so i'm sticking with the teg. I'm looking to spend the least amount of money possible here. So I'm trying to decide if buying a gsr would be better than buying another LS and making it an lsvtec. Would i really need to change my bottom end for lsvtec? If i have to pull the engine for whetever reason then i'd rather get a gsr. So a stock bottom end for the lsvtec is what I'll be using.
I'm not considering turbocharging either car, I like the simplicity of the supercharger, and I'm not looking for crazy numbers. Anything to get me into the 14s. So which jrsc would fit a ls/b16a1 tho?
Thanks a lot for your help, i appreciate it

my GSR ran 13.8 with 6 psi from JRSC with about 60 feet of tire hop off the line

keep in mind that atleast my insurance company considers the gsr a sports car and also being a young male makes it even worse!
