Default Camshaft Removal Help Urgently Requested

Hello All. I am in over my head and could really use some help. I am trying to replace the head gasket on my 94 Integra LS (non VTEC) because it was leaking oil and the engine was over-heating. I have gotten to the point where I am trying to remove the camshafts. I have loosened the valve adjusting screws and locknuts, and all the bolts are out, but the bearings are stuck on, and I can't remove the camshaft. Is this a common problem, and how can I get them out?

Thanks for your time.

Mark

I'll give it another try, but I have exerted as much pressure as I can with my hands and I can't budge any of them.

Someone told me to hit the camshafts from the bottom with a rubber hammer. Would that be a huge mistake?

dont do that, another thing you can do is take some pliers and gently pull at them, one end at a time until you feel them pop loose. ive seen people lift from the cam-gear so that the force of the cam pops the caps off. main goal is to not scratch the cam or the caps

Make sure all of the cam cap bolts are out even the ones that are next to the distributor then use a pair of channel locks to rock the cam caps back and forth.

Rubber mallet. I wouldn't use any metal tools on them - i.e. pliars.

That's for a B18c but I doubt there's much difference.

Thanks all, for the great feedback. I'll be at it tonight (again). It sounds as if there are several ways to go about this, but the important part is to not scratch any mating surfaces.
I'll post any progress I can make. Thanks again!

Please, do not use pliars/vice grips on those parts. You will not only marr them but you also run the risk of dropping metal shavings into the head. Just use a rubber mallet. At the risk of sounding vain, I built my own motor and it makes almost 400 whp and drove it from CO to AZ and back without a problem... please take my advice on this.

westcoaststyle, are you suggesting that I hit the camshaft from the bottom with a mallot, or hit each cap?
