so a truck hit me in manhattan last night
nice. comming back from the city into jersey on canal street and a stupid ****ing TRUCK smashes into my right side trying to get into my lane. the back right fender is DONE and im gonna need a new back bumper. my rim is scratched up too. it was 100% the other guys fault. i wonder if i can get anything out of this. how much is the bodywork to replace the back right fender and the back bumper and the rim? anyone have a clue? or any tip on how to get something out of this cause it really pissed me off.
The insurance company will pay the estimate from the shop, so go to an EXPENSIVE ass shop affiliated with a dealer. They'll pay for the parts and labor, so if you can score a used back bumper, that will save a couple hundred right there.
A used wheel will probably net you another $200 that you can either keep if they cut you a check directly, or if they pay the body shop directly, use towards shaving stuff, repainting other things, etc.
You can also score a 98+ bumper out of it at least.

Don't repair anything, or don't have insurance pay to repair it anyway. Make them pay to replace it; cut you a check and then you can go get whatever you can repaired.
My light wreck (see: http://spirit.netwiz.net/~antarius/v...integra/wreck/) resulted in $700 repair invoice, or a $3600 REPLACEMENT invoice.
I had (and am actually having this done, not just making money on it) them REPLACE the hood, REPLACE the bumper, REPLACE the fender, REPLACE EVERYTHING that so much as got an extra molecule of air placed onto it by the accident.
Goes into the shop in a week and a half (damn slackers).
By law they have to pay to bring it back to like-OEM condition, which is not bondo'd repaired shiz, it's all brand new if you so wish =].

You tell the bodyshop that you want everything that is damaged REPLACED and to give you a quote accordingly. You tell the insurance company the same. You fax them the quote that the bodyshop you chose gave you, they send out an adjuster and adjust it and bs with your bodyshop to come up with a more reasonable price and then you drop your car off and say wallah bingo and it's put back to new condition.
Now if you're trying to make some dough on the deal, you gotta either 1) have your car paid off or convince your insurance company you are unsure where you're going and that you got a quote to have it all replaced and that they are welcome to send out an adjuster and then cut YOU a check for it. Then depending how bad the damage is you can go get it REPAIRED and pocket teh change.
Bingo.

i still havent gotten this fixed yet,. but i got a $2550 check from the insurance company. I found a shop that will fix everything good for about 2400$ .. maybe less if i mess around with him beacuse he is one of my dads friends. and i should be getting my $500 deductable back too as soon as the prove that it wasnt my fault, which it wasnt.
