Default Short Shifter....

Ok....so I bought a short shifter about 400 years ago I asked my boyfriend to put it on repetedly because at the time, he was off work for a few weeks and I had school and work (both full time)...so I gave him my car for an entire day when he finally said he would do it and took his. At the end of the day, no short shifter installed. He told me it was "too difficult". This is a guy who has replaced numerous engines and done everything you can thing of to a car, bodywise and enginewise. Maybe he was just being lazy but can someone please just tell me how to put it on my 99 teg ...is it that difficult? I just want the damn thing installed instead of sitting in my backseat!! Thanks

It's extremely easy, tell him to get off his ass.

It is much easier to do if you just rip the whole shift linkage out, so that you know what you are working with. And make sure the spacers are on there correctly or you will have trouble shifting and get rattling.

The reason I had asked him to do it before was because he had a few weeks off work...now he's back full-time and I'm full-time work and full-time school so it'll have to wait til a weekend when I have free time-a.k.a. not this one!!

How funny would it be if you installed it while your boyfriend watched? :chuckles:

Yea, that wouuld be funny for sure. I wouldn't install one at all because if your car is your daily driver than your going to wear out your synchros faster than most standard transmissions. Unless your racing the car thats different otherwise go for it
