B16 tranny, GSR tranny, LS tranny and ITR tranny are the only ones that will bolt up to the LS block

If you go with a B16 tranny, make sure it is hydraulic and not cable.

The ITR tranny has the same gearing as the B16 tranny, but has a limited slip differential. It is the best tranny out of the group.

Any advantages or disadvantages of having my stock tranny rebuilt as to buying a new one?

Any B-series tranny will bolt up to any B-series block.

I would suggest buying a new one. This way it may only cost you marginally more, yet you have a much wider array of gearing options to choose from.
