VTEC Engagement Variables
What are the variables that determine whether or not vtec engages? I know oil pressure is a factor but what about throttle position, etc, etc. This came to mind while driving in 4th gear ~25mph(came out of a corner, didnt have a free hand to shift so i just let it go). The thing is that your speed climbs very slowly when in such a high gear but eventually it gets up into the 7 grand range, does vtec engage or just keep on revving on the original cam profile?

Vtec will always engage on the GSR at 4400 rpm regardless of gear. The secondary intake runners will always open at 5800 regardless of gear....which is why I really have to go fast to get them open in 5th gear.
If your oil pressure is too low the cams will not engage until a higher RPM, you will probably hear clicking and stuff as they try to engage and fail.
One suggestion, learn how to downshift or something because coming out a corner in 4th gear? Im suprised you didnt bog lol.
That or stop trying to feel up your girl while driving corners
"I didn't have a free hand!" heh

engine temp will restrict VTEC activation mine wont activate till im about 3 blocks from home in the morning then temp guage gets off its lazy C a** and the I get VTEC I have no intake runner change over though so I cant comment on that.
