Default LS for $600

I found this kid who is selling his '94 LS for $600. only catch is that the timing belt broke. Now what are the odds that the only thing thats broke are the valves? If there is damage to the bottom end will i be able to tell by looking at it?

Most likely yes.

And if the valves are broken, something (pistons) must have kissed them to cause the damage. Which means they are damaged as well most likely.

Even still for $600, if the car has full interior and the body is in good shape, thats a great deal.

$600 is not bad, but is is most likely going to need a motor or a rebuild if the timing belt broke, like newgsrdriver said, if the valves are bent, something had to bend them, still not a bad deal if you are willing to put the time, money and work into it.

When my timing belt broke the valves bent, but did not break. I had no piston or cylinder wall damage, so I slapped on a new head, head gasket, and timing belt. There's no way to tell until you pull the head off the motor though.

this summer, I am gonna get rid of my head, you are more than welcome to it for 50 bucks plus ship if you would like. The easiest thing to do it gonna be get a different head and save that one for a rainy day, kinda for a back up. get the car though, wcs and i got an integra like that and made atleast twice the money each of us put in on it.

It gets me everytime someone brings up a question about broken timing belts...

There's just as much of a possibility that the valves are fine. there's only one way to tell. Buy a timing belt kit and put it on. If shit is in fact fuct up, repalce or rebuild. You'll have to buy the belt, tensioner and spring anyway.
