Switching to synthetic at high mileage is not recommended due to the "cleaning" properties of the detergents in the oil which can dislodge any built up gunk in minute cracks in seals from mineral oil over time. This is where you get the "dont switch to synthetic or you'll develop leaks"...youre half right.

I run Castrol full syn 5w30, much better than the mobil i ran for years.

I'm running Valvoline 10W-30 and have been since I got my teg a few years ago. I also try to run the OEM filters as often as I can. I'm at 173,000 and no problems. Car idles smooth and no major oil leaks or burning of oil.

Im actually going to stay away from OEM filters now that they have substituted the new small filters for the older style. I dont like the idea of increased oil pressure, and the prices keep going up too. When i first got the car, filters were no more than $4 a pop. Now Ive paid up to $8. Id rather just stick with the $5 PureOne's that seem to have a solid design and are the exact same size as the older OEMs.

Try getting some OEM S2K filters next time... try 15400-PCX-004 or something like that. Awesome OEM filters made in Japan that's even better than the old OEMs

And personally use the OEM(Mobil) 5w-30 oil...

Are the OEM S2k filters the same larger size as the old OEM filters? I thought all of them switched over.
