1996 Integra LS

When starting from a traffic light in first, I've noticed that the steering wheel pulls to the left, sometimes as much as 6 inches, then moves back after about 10 mph.

If I have a stronger hold on the wheel it doesn't go anywhere, only when I've got a few fingers resting and the car is under acceleration in first gear. It isn't any variation in the road surface and happens fairly regularly.

I would get an alignment if I were you. Sounds like something is out of spec.

 

I had an alignment within the year, however I'm not sure how frequently that should be done. The wheel or car itself doesn't pull in either direction once it's moving.

 

How hard are you on the throttle? Could just be torque steer.

Not particularly hard most of the time. From what I read about torque steer in the Integra forum before posting this, I thought it was unlikely for a stock car. Has anyone else had this with a stock teg? Thanks,

have you added any aftermarket parts or hit and pot holes or anything since you allignment?

 

let's see...if you hit any real hard pot holes or something of that nature, that could throw off your alignment a little. To me...that sounds a toe-in problem. If you've lowered your car any, added new tires, new rims, or anything like that, then you need an alignment regardless. But like yodub said, it might be as simple as low tire pressure.

The only aftermarket parts on the car are the rims, and I haven't hit any big potholes. I'll try to be a bit more detailed;

Sitting at the stoplight waiting to go on a level street surface. As the clutch comes out and as soon as the wheels get power, the car and steering wheel pull to the left a significant amount - steering wheel; six inches or so, car; a foot or so. I can stop this by holding on to the steering wheel and not letting it move that way. As soon as I'm at about 10 mph the pulling stops and the car drives perfectly straight.

Does it sound like it could be torque steer - on a car like this? Thanks,

 

yes...

Start out raelly lighty and if it doesnt do it, then its prolly jsut torque steer. MANY MANY fwd cars, new and old, do this.
