How hard is it to install a LSD? Would it be impossible for me to do, should i have a shop do it?

Thanks

Its a lot more complicated than a clutch install. If you have to ask i'd say dont do it.

my friend is a mechanic and put my quaife in, but he ran into a problem, he had never worked on a honda b4 and there was something that he did when he put the tranny back together he didnt align something right, and when i tried to shift into second it would grind and not go in, so he took it back apart and he ended up not aligning something right, he said it was so stupid, if you really wanna do it take your time and only do it if youve know how to get it back together

I'm changing out the differential in my GS-R and it is entirely too easy. You've got to pull the axles, and drop the transmission. Then its a bunch of bolts, a snap ring, and a couple of shafts on the shifter assembly. After thats done, you take the gears out (they lift right out) and lift the differential out. You then transfer over the ring gear. Put the new one in, and here's where it gets tricky. You have to use a special tool to check the tension on your lsd. If its not within a certain limit, you have to get a new 79.5mm from honda, that will bring that torque into spec. You definitely need a helms manual. Then its just a matter of sliding everything back together. Be prepared to change your axle seals out though. Mine had some seepage and had to be special ordered through the dealer. Its only 20 bucks, so you might as well do it while its handy. Its better than ripping everything apart and waiting two weeks. You'll also want to replace a couple of crush washers in there.

Oh yeah... here's some pictures: LSD pics

you half to take it to a trans shop because it needs to be machined to much trouble if you have a gsr you really dont need a lsd it would be nice though

You're absolutely wrong. The only "special" adjustment to the whole process is ordering the right 79.5mm shim. The factory service manual comes with a table that tells you which shim you need to order to get the torque to come in. If anyone wants I could even scan the page and email it to anyone interested. Its a breeze.
