Default 8800 rpm..

Ok, so today I was driving my '94 GSR and I accelerated "rather briskly" next to my buddy with a '99 GSR. So I hold my revs at about 4 grand, dump the clutch, and before I know it, I'm at 8800 rpm in 1st at which point I seemed to have some difficulty getting it into 2nd. So my question is this: Is 8800 rpm conidered outrageous? I bought the car with a Skunk2 ECU set up for ITR cams, but for certain reasons I had to put in b16 cams for now. Anyway, I'm not sure what all the computer does...Do I have a rev limiter in place or what? I think the guy said it could rev safely to 9000 but I'm not completely sure. So anybody have any ideas about the revs or the computer? Thanks.

Oh yeah...The car seems to be running fine right now. I had to drive for almost 2 hours after that happened, and I don't notice anything strange.

Well that certainly isn't low...
I'd keep it a little lower if it were me.
Yeah it's a nice thing to be able to say it can redline at 9,000, but many of us will never be able to truthfully say that about our honda engines.
My bike on the other hand redlines at 12,000. (sorry off subject).

I wouldn't recommend revving over the stock limit unless you have built the motor to make power at those higher RPMs. If it isn't built, you are just wasting gas and wearing your engine down faster.

Unless you have aftermarket springs/retainers, don't go above 8200 rpm.

I've got Type R dual valve springs and titanium valve retainers...I was just curious if anyone knew anything about the Skunk2 ECU's and how they differ from the regular GSR ECU? Cause the Skunk2 was already in the car when I bought it. I don't know how much this helps with figuring out what the computer is doing exactly, but right now my car is running really rich since I had to go from the ITR cams that were in there when i bought it to the b16's that i have in there for the time being...

It must have a higher rev limit than the OEM ECU because it would normally cut off at 8400 RPMs. The upgraded valve train will be just fine for the higher rev limit though.

You should consider slapping it on a dyno to see if going up that high is even doing anything for you. You might only be making power up to 8400. Glad you have those extra parts in the head though.

I certainly didn't mean to rev it up that high..For some reason, I just couldnt seem to get it to engage into 2nd. And I didn't hit any sort of rev limiter or anything so I'm not sure how high the car can rev. Maybe the new ECU has deleted the rev limiter or something. I dont know and I'm really not willing to find out...

You might not have any rev limit at all.

Might think about investing in new engine management, especially if you're planning on some new cams down the line. (which you should, b16 cams are even milder than b18c1 cams) Assuming you don't want to replace your valvetrain, Skunk2 stage 1 would be my recommendation.
