Default Can I join the Club: 98 GSR New Owner :)

Hi guys. I just bought a 1998 GSR Black 5 Spd 86,000. Did they even make automatics?

Anyway I had been looking at run of the mill Civics and then came across this. And this won

Car seems very fast once I get the RPMs up 6-7-8 + .

Any suggestions for some work to do on this vehcile. I'm not interested in really tricking this out like you speed freaks . I like the speed I'm getting and I just want to have it run for a long time.

Tomorrow I plan on

-Fresh Oil and Filter. Mobil One? Any comments on Filters

-Platnum Plugs and New wires.

-Coolant Flush (Could use some new coolant for sure)

-Air Filter Suggestions?

Thanks.. I look forward to discussin INTEGRAS!

you can get an AEM short ram intake setup for pretty cheap now, they're even good used!

gives better throttle response.

i like purolator filters, you may want to think about getting some maintainance done, if the timing belt has not been done, you have enough years on it that it may need doing, maybe a new rotor and cap to go with those plug wires. I prefer copper core plugs to the platinums, they don't last as long, but they are cheap and copper is a better conductor. While you are changing fluids, you may want to do the trans fluid, stock honda trans oil has a lot going for it, but I have had good luck with the red line I have been using. 0-60 is probably under 7.5 s, would be a bit driver, tire and clutch dependant

Congrats on your new purchase, and welcome to HAN.

Enjoy your stay.

As far as filters go, I'd recommend Wix, Hastings, Purolator and I belive Mobil still makes a filter for your application. I'd run away screaming from any FRAM filter. FRAM's quality of construction and materials have gone to shit.
It's simply not worth the risks..

http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/old_filters.shtml << A darn good resource that illustrates how FRAM has cut costs so drastically. Have a gander.

Once again, welcome to HAN

Thanks for the welcome guys! Just put a new cap NGK Wires and Plugs in her. New air filter. Flushed the coolant. The air filter was damn dirty and with the new air filter cap wires and plugs she feels even a bit quicker

I will try to get some pics up.

Good buy, stick w/NGK plugs, like your car has and replace the wires w/what it should have. Hinda/Acura ignition is a good set-up and no need for bigger wires or platinum plugs. The cap and rotor most likely need to be changed out. A fram filter is good to go. GSR is manual only, always has been since it is raced inspired (for it's time) it was said that it would be an isult to the motor to be attached to an automatic tranny. Your timing belt is good until 100k, at which point all belts and waterpump must be replaced. An intake (replaces your stock airbox) and exhaust should do you justice since you really don't want to go all out. But let me warn you, once you start you want more, and before you know it you'll be knee deep in the shit, you'll need boots, so buy some now if you don't have any.
