Default Diagnose my old motor. (pics)

Well I finally got around to taking apart my old motor. One of the second cylinder valves has a freaking hole in it. Heres the pics.

one more. Seems like every cylinder wall is fine, and the only damage is in the head.

Detonation? The #4 spark plug look like it's been running a little hot, #1 looks OK, two has obviously not been working too well, and #3 looks like there's oil that's been burning...

Yeah, that is definitely detonation. Did you put cheap gas in it? That looks terrible.

The walls look fine but new pistons and valves are in your future if you plan on salvaging it.

No I always used 92 octane. The thing is, everything on the motor was fine for the first 5 months, then one day it started burning 1-2 quarts of oil every 250 miles and gettin horrible gas mileage. Why would I need new pistons??? They look fine, a little carbon build up but thats it??

around 98k when this happend. No special load on the engine either, just I/H/E/C and a new clutch and flywheel.
