Would this be a good deal?

If you are confident it's not, then go for it. The last thing you'd want though is a nice, finished, engine.... and have it turn out to be stolen so you don't get to keep it anyway, you know?

I do agree you generally get what you pay for, but that would imply that you can never find a good deal on something, which we all know isn't true.
Just check it out to make sure you know what you're getting. He says it has a spun bearing, and you're okay with that, but it might have more than just a spun bearing. It also might be stolen or unknowingly purchased from someone else who stole it.
It's good to cover your bases, just to be safe. You'd rather have what you were looking for at a reasonable price, then get a great deal on something you can't use, right?

good luck....
well, thats why I'm inspecting the motor before I buy it. He's letting me take the head and the oil pan, off. Plus, even if the sleeves are out of round, the rods are bent and the pistons are scarred. Heck, even if the crank is cracked, those are all things I will be addressing with my rebuild. He is a local guy with a good reputation as a seller though, so I doubt theres anything more than a spun bearing or a scorched valve or two.
