New member needs timing belt advice
I have an 87 Integra with the DOHC 1.6L which has been sitting in my garage for about a year (since the timing belt broke.) I bought a new timing belt for it and have it installed but it doesn't run right. I have the service manual and I'm pretty sure I've done everything correctly.
Do I most likely have bent valves? I called the local dealership and talked to one of the mechanics and he said it's unlikely that any valves bent when it broke, but I don't know if I buy that.
Anyone gone through this?
Thanks in advance, Brian.

How is it not running right? What specifically is happening? Rough idle or a noise that you hear? Could be a valve, or it could just be that its not timed right. Give us some more details on what its doing so we can go from there

It's running rough like it's out of time. It will stay running IF I stay on the gas a little, but if I let off the gas it stalls. I don't hear any clatter. It's REALLY hard to know exactly where #1 TDC is with the crank pulley since the timing marker is on the cover, which has to be OFF to put the belt on.
Just a guess, but if you are using the the same gas that has been in there for a year it could be that. Gas does go bad after amount of time (i.e. sitting in a tank for a year). Try siphoning out the old gas and putting in new gas.
It's not the gas. It may be bad NOW but at the time I was getting these symptoms, it hadn't been setting that long. only for a couple weeks. I'm beginning to think I just don't have the belt in the right position.
