89 LS swap?
hey whats up all? im new here and know almost nothing about 1st gen integras. i bought my 89 ls 5-speed a couple days ago and while its decent for being rated at 118 h.p. it clearly will not work out for a long term car. now the car itself is in good condition but the motor is soooo week and slow. so i was wondering 1st of all: what is the name of that motor? and 2nd: what do you guys suggest to swap in that has good power and is under 5k to have put in?
B16A, DOHC VTEC 1.6l, 160hp, 112lb-ft. Origin: JDM 88-91 Civic SiR, CRX SiR, and JDM 89-91 Integra XSi, RSi. It is availible domestically and overseas in quite a few more models, however the first generation JDM B16A's specifically listed above would be the easiest to use.
B18A, DOHC 1.8l, 130hp, 121lb-ft (90-91), 140hp, 126lb-ft (92-93.) Origin: 90-93 Integra RS, LS, LS-S, and GS. 92-93 engines require electrical backdating.
B18B, DOHC 1.8l, 140-142hp (depending on year,) 126lb-ft. Origin: 94-01 Integra RS, LS, GS, SE (and JDM Integra ESi) Requires electrical backdating.
B20B, DOHC 2.0l, 126hp, 133lb-ft. Origin: 97-98 CRV. Requires electrical backdating and many parts to complete.
B20Z, DOHC 2.0l, 146hp, 133lb-ft. Origin: 99-02 CRV. Requires electrical backdating and many parts to complete.

On http://g1teg.org/ there is a guy with Type R Engine in it. So mainly you can fit anything in the car, as long as you have bottomless wallet for the mods.
On that note, a B-series is the largest that will fit without serious body modification. Be sure to change the timing belt before you put the engine in the body, because once it's in, it is almost impossible to change.
Don't count on a turbo kit fitting a B engine, either.

but while were on the subject of swaps...my friend was telling me that
you can swap a V-TEC head onto my car? i dont know if he was right, but
i figured i'd look into it. if you can, how would that effect your perforence?
and also just as a side note...what is the name of the motor for my car?

An Integra late-browntop is the easiest, but we won't get in to that.
Out of the B-series, a 90-91 B18A would be the easiest to swap overall.

ok. ive been checking out the B16A's from the 89 JDM civic/crx's on ebay.
what im wondering is how would it cost to get the motor put in?
if i had all the parts and everything what would be a ballpark number
for getting it put in by a shop? also you said that the B series fit snug in the engine bay? even the B16a? i would think its th same size seeing how its the same 1.6 engine type...could you clarify that for me?
and i was wondering too: would i need a new tranny? or would my stock
one work good enough? oh yea can someone list everything that i would
to swap in a new motor i.e. alternator, fuel rails all that type of

It would cost anywhere between $500-$1000 depending on the place you get it done. For that car, I'd lean more toward $1000.
Engine size has more to do with engine design then displacement. B-series blocks are bigger then D-series, by design. The B16A is only a few millimeters
shorter then the B18C1.

You need a B-series engine (100% complete,) B-series trans, and PWO/PR3/PR4 ECU of depending on the engine. Then, a mount kit, shift linkage, wiring subharness, custom axles, and a few days of free time... along with new hoses, timing belt, water pump, coolant, oils, etc.
